Card Spend Competition - Terms & Conditions
1. PROMOTER
1.1 The promoter of this competition is Al Baraka Bank Limited (“the Promoter”) a registered Bank in the Republic of South Africa.
1.2 This promotional competition is conducted in compliance with the provisions of Section 36 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, together with all other applicable laws and regulations governing promotional competitions in South Africa.
2. COMPETITION PERIOD
2.1 The competition will run from 00:00 on 1 May 2026 until 23H59 on 31 July 2026 (“the Competition Period”).
3. ELIGIBIITY
3.1 The competition is open to:
- All clients of Al Baraka Bank who hold an active Transactional Banking account;
- Clients who have been issued with an Al Baraka debit card linked to their Transactional Banking account; and,
3.2 The following persons are not eligible to participate:
- Employees of the Promoter;
- Directors, officers and contractors of the Promoter;
- Immediate family members of employees or directors of the Promoter; and,
- Any person directly involved in the running, administration or auditing of the competition.
4. HOW TO ENTER
4.1 Eligible clients of the Promoter will be automatically entered into the competition upon using their Al Baraka Transactional Banking debit card during the Competition Period.
4.2 Qualifying transactions include:
- Point-of-sale purchases (including swipe, insert or tap transactions);
- Contactless payments; and
- Online purchases effected using the Al Baraka debit card.
4.3 Each qualifying transaction will constitute one (1) entry into the competition draw.
4.4 Participants may receive multiple entries, provided each entry is linked to a valid qualifying transaction.
4.5 No registration or additional steps are required for participation in the competition.
5. EXCLUDED TRANSACTIONS
5.1 The following transactions will not qualify as entries into the competition, namely:
- ATM withdrawals;
- Cash withdrawals at retail merchants;
- Debit orders;
- Internal transfers between accounts;
- Reversed, refunded or cancelled transactions; and,
- Transactions that are suspected to be fraudulent, irregular or manipulated .
6. PRIZE
6.1 The total prize pool for the competition is R30,000,00 (Thirty Thousand Rand).
6.2 The prizes shall be allocated as follows:
- 10 (Ten) winners will be selected each month; and
- Each winner will receive a cash prize of R1,000,00 (One Thousand Rand).
6.3 All prizes will be credited directly into the winners’ Al Baraka Bank Transactional Banking Account.
6.4 The prize:
- Is not transferable;
- Is not exchangeable for cash outside of Al Baraka Bank;
- May not be substituted for any other item or alternative prize;
- Will only be paid into an Al Baraka Transactional Banking Account and will not be paid into any other bank account.
6.5 The Promoter reserves the right to review and validate all transactions prior to awarding prizes.
7. WINNER SELECTION
7.1 Winners will be selected through a random draw from all qualifying transactions recorded during the Competition Period.
7.2 The draw will be conducted by the Promoter after the competition closing date in accordance with internal governance procedures to ensure fairness and transparency.
7.3 The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all selected winners before awarding prizes.
7.4 The Promoter’s decision shall be final.
8. WINNER NOTIFICATION
8.1 Winners will be notified using the contact details stipulated in the Promoter’s records.
8.2 Prizes will be deposited into the winners Al Baraka Bank Transactional Banking Account within 7-14 business days after verification.
8.3 In the event that a winner cannot be contacted or is subsequently found to be ineligible, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternative winner.
9. GENERAL CONDITIONS
9.1 By entering the competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
9.2 The Promoter reserves the right to:
- Disqualify any participant who breaches these Terms and Conditions;
- Disqualify entries suspected of fraud, manipulation or misconduct;
- Cancel, suspend, or amend the Competition where reasonably necessary, subject to applicable law, and any such changes shall be published on the Promoter’s social media platforms.
10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
10.1 The Promoter shall not be liable for:
- Any loss, damage or costs incurred by participants as a result of their participation in the competition;
- Any technical failures affecting transaction processing; and,
- Delays or disruptions outside the Bank’s reasonable control.
10.2 Participation in the competition is entirely at the participant’s own risk.
11. USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
11.1 Any personal information collected in relation to the competition will be processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act No. 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable laws. Such information will be used solely for the purposes of administering the Competition, verifying winners, fulfilling regulatory requirements, and related promotional activities, and will be processed in a lawful and reasonable manner in line with the Promoter’s prevailing privacy policies.
13. RIGHT TO AMEND OR CANCEL
13.1 The Promoter reserves the right to amend, suspend or terminate the competition if required due to circumstances beyond its control or where necessary to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
13.2 Any changes will be communicated through the Promoter’s official communication channels.
14. GOVERNING LAW
14.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and any disputes arising out of or in connection with the competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa, provided that a dispute concerning a question of compliance with Shari’ah, shall be resolved in accordance with Shariah Law, having regard to the AAOIFI Shariah Standards as interpreted by the Shariah Supervisory Board..
15. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
15.1 By entering the competition, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, as amended from time to time in accordance with applicable law.
