Mandela Day 2025: Al Baraka Bank Continues Its Legacy of Compassionate Contribution
18 July 2025
Mandela Day, observed annually on 18 July, honours the remarkable life and legacy of Nelson Mandela by encouraging individuals, organizations, and communities to make a positive impact in their surroundings. This year, Al Baraka Bank once again proudly participated in this global initiative, extending its support across South Africa through targeted contributions to homes caring for the elderly and frail.
For 2025, Al Baraka Bank allocated a total spend of R90,000 across three regions, with the focus on supporting homes dedicated to the care and dignity of elderly residents. Our efforts this year included:
• Durban: Assisting the Frail Care Centre with the delivery of essential hampers and meeting specific identified needs to uplift the home and enhance the residents’ quality of life.
• Johannesburg: Contributing hampers to MZB Mothers & Fathers Home, offering support and comfort to its residents.
• Cape Town: Providing hampers to Beitul Aman, a home dedicated to caring for the aged.
Cheryl Ramkumar, Al Baraka Bank’s Social Responsibility Officer, remarked:
“Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we stand together in the service of others. At Al Baraka Bank, we remain committed to the values of compassion, dignity, and community upliftment – values that remain at the heart of both our organization and the legacy of Nelson Mandela.”
This year’s focus on supporting the elderly reflects Madiba’s wisdom and vision. As he once said:
“A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future.”
Al Baraka Bank encourages all South Africans to embrace the spirit of Mandela Day by taking action, no matter how small, to create meaningful change. Together, we can continue building a more compassionate and connected society.
